Shooting Slight Return

I had the opportunity to take some pictures at the weekend for two friends, Darren and Tommy, who make up the britpop acoustic covers duo Slight Return. I’ve had the pleasure of playing a set or two with these boys (on the Cajon) so was more than happy to blow the cobwebs off of the camera and take some snaps when I was asked.

I packed fairly light for the shoot with just my OM-D, two speedlights and an umbrella - Robyn offered to assist and was very helpful in holding and pointing lights so I wasn’t faffing around too much with stands and modifiers. Considering I don’t get much practice shooting other people these days and it’s certainly been a while since I’ve done anything out on location, I think I got a couple of passable frames! The boys seemed happy with them which is the main thing and hopefully they have hit the early 90’s moody boys band photo cliché I was aiming for 😂. I’ve not shared all of the images - just enough to test the new galley widget I’ve built for post pages 😉📸

Having shared a peek at how I light portraits for bands, I also previously put my Olympus camera and a single speedlight to work on a rather feverish self-portrait, playing around with a unique, slightly bonkers look 📸.

As you've just caught a glimpse of my world through the lens, I previously shared a much deeper, personal reflection on some challenging life moments and why opening up about them is so incredibly vital. ✨
