Bye-bye flickr

Posted: 15 May 2022photographyflickrtechreflectionsphotos

This weekend I finally found the time to backup all my flickr images and delete my account. The reason for doing so was purely practical - It’s been a long time since I actively posted images to flickr. I no longer interact with any groups and am no longer part of any art projects on the platform. Given I had nearly 3000 older images stored on Flickr, recent account changes that have come into effect would soon have soon left me paying for the service or I’d of risk losing…read more

Choropleth Experiments

It feels like I change blogging platforms more often than I actually write blog posts…but rather than just a desire to apply a fresh coat of paint this time my rebuild had purpose. I had three main goals in mind… 1. Reducing my hosting costs Considering I seldom post or get much traffic to my website and I burnt through my free AWS credits sometime back paying for an EC2 instance on a monthly basis seemed a stupid waste of money. 2. Apply Learning I’d been tinkering with a…read more

Tinkering Monday

Publishing my first set of weeknotes on Friday reminded me how much I find Medium a bit of an irritating experience. I really do appreciate how Medium removes all the distracting guff and allows you to focus on the content and writing…but as someone who has played with content management systems and websites for a number of years - it also grates a little not to have more control. I realise that’s the point but I like to tinker on the web and I’ve learnt a lot this this way.…read more
